Real Madrid have set their sights on signing another Liverpool star for free after successfully poaching Trent Alexander-Arnold for free.
Liverpool has suffered at the hands of the Spanish club in recent years.
Apart from losing two UEFA Champions League finals to Los Blancos, Madrid has beaten the Reds to several transfer targets, including Aurelien Tchouaméni and Jude Bellingham in recent seasons.
They have also lost several key players to Madrid in the past, including Michael Owen, Steve McManaman, and Xabi Alonso.
Alexander-Arnold is the latest player to switch to Santiago Bernabeu from Anfield.
The defender announced that he would leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season, meaning Madrid will get him for free.
Although the Spanish club are reportedly looking to pay Liverpool a small fee to get him off his deal a few days earlier, the amount they are offering is less than 1% of the amount a player of Alexander-Arnold’s calibre will command.
Incidentally, Liverpool are not the first club to lose a player to Real Madrid for free in recent times?
The Spanish club have become adept at snapping up players on Bosman deals, with Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Kylian Mbappe the most recent high-profile players they got for nothing.
With Liverpool fans still dressing their wounds from Real Madrid’s free signing of their vice captain, a new report in Spain claims that the Spanish giants are planning to sign another Anfield star for free.
The player in question is Ibrahima Konate.
The Frenchman has one year left on his current Liverpool deal, and Real Madrid want to take advantage when his deal expires.
According to Marca, who reveal that Konate and Arsenal star William Saliba are among the players Real Madrid want to sign for free next summer.
“Other names that have appeared on the Real Madrid horizon are Konaté and Saliba , but the two French internationals belong to that group of players that Real Madrid is monitoring and that are waiting for the end of their contracts to approach, a circumstance that will happen in the summer of 2026 for the Liverpool centre-back, and in 2027 for the Arsenal defender.”
